He hasn't got any responses, not even one from Kazakhstan.

I expect best buy to call me this week. Jerks. Wa Post has a review of the CDs I don't own and actually give "Digital Ash..." the better review:

I'm having issues with your dream dad today. The column is funny at times and I agree that Waffle House, IHOP and Applebees are lame but I'm just really not interested. I don't care if Jacksonville is a dump, neither do 90% of his other Washington area readers, he's just pissed because he has to go there to cover it and hang out with Killbon (new name for Wilbon since he KILLS). I would also not classify .38 Special as a "Southern hair band," sure they were hairy, but they weren't hangin' out at a lot of Crue shows. I'm also shocked to find that stat boy has lived in New Jersey! Breaking News! Oh my gawd! Sarcasm Alert!

I'll be slamming heads all morning and will return around 11.

I'll probably be watching best of Will Ferrell all night. Not Wayne's World.

Hey, any column that makes fun of Applebee's is a good one, though this is one of Tony's more "old guy" pieces.

The WaPo Bright Eyes review seems pretty much from a "I didn't really listen to this before, it's overhyped" perspective, which might be why it's closer to ours - vs. the pitchfork "we have Conor Oberst's womb recordings in heavy rotation" take.

On a side note - pitchfork's review of the new QOTSA single yesterday is really mailing it in.

"Rain check" is one of the stupidest phrases I've ever heard. There's no better description for this occurrence?

I agree on the Bright Eyes front, the Post really suffers from not having David Segal around. None of the randoms that they have covering rock/pop seem to be very informed. I'd be interested to hear Segal's comments on HFS.

I got the feeling that the p-fork guy never listened to the QOTSA song and just assumed that it was not as good as the singles from the last album. For shame Fat Tony, for shame.

Raincheck should only be applied to baseball games that are rained out. The Bright Eyes CD not arriving had little to nothing to do with rain unless they start spitting water at me when I go to pick it up.

pf has deigned to announce Herr Leo's tourdates (no East Coast, save NYC, that lazy bastard). Notably, when he tours England, he's not playing gloriously monikered, presumably elegant Victorian concert halls. Instead, he'll be showing up at Nice and Sleazy's and two places in Belgium called Lint Factory and Culture Factory, respectively.

This thing veers dangerously close to meta-pitchfork, sometimes. That's a crappy website, I mean pitchfork, I mean culture factory, I mean crap factory.

I had seen those dates on Tedzilla's website and made particular not of Nice and Sleazy's.

Non-pitchfork related comment: Wore the Burberry coat today, it's getting the job done and gettin it done well.

More after lunch.

I never commented on gothiczartan. Dya think he's kidding? That's a weird internet thing, that some people establish entire fake identities just to rile other geeks up... I put forth the explanation that gothiczartan is one KC Jones. Those misspellings put it over the edge of believability, and I know how you feel about Slipknot. Please to be posting the thought to me.

I think that gothiczartan is a legitimate immigrant. Slipknot is huuuuuge in europe for whatever reason. he might actually be a poor high schooler trying to figure out what's cool. He's great. The decent amount of people who post on there seriously expecting a discussion about the numerous merits of Hoobastank or Linkin Park lead me to believe he's legit. His faux-broken english might be a cover so that people don't tear him apart.

I sure hope his name is really Zartan.

There's a thing on wapo.com (I'm too lazy to link it right now) about the HFStival continuing on, even without WHFS. It seems to imply that it will be tough to pull off without the free 24-7 promotion that the radio station used to get. I think a more significant problem is that the acts used to play, essentially, in return for spins. If there's no one to spin, you can't hope to book big draws.

Dream scenario is that they're forced to ask, and play, more organic/indie bands, when Nickelback passes. But that's being naive - my prediction is small concert with a Washington-College-level band on the decline.

I read that column this morning. The name HFStival is so tainted by the retardation of the concertgoers that I would never in my life go to anything associated with it. Gross. I was more interested that the Seth guy who owns 9:30 is going to be running the Merriwether shows this season. It'll be interesting to see who comes through and plays there since I think that style venue is mainly suited for big country concerts and various events where drinking is the parking lot is required. Again. Gross.

I really liked his "Symphony of Lights" though, so there's hope.

I'm not sure that's cool with federal contractors either... Unfortunate.

Someday, your sincerest hopes will be lampooned by a satirical website, as well. It was just last night that I thought to myself, there's just no reason to do topical humor, while the onion's around. Can't beat em.
