Musikladen Independenten

Wilkommen all post-punk alt-rock legends. We are here to entertain you. Please to be observing some recent reviews:
"It's pretty funny" - Bob Mould
"Stop bothering me you moron" - Paul Westerberg
"It's pretty good, but my moustache is better" - Greg Norton of Husker Du
"It gave me a headache" - Frank Black
"We're still pissed about Guided by Voices" - Stephen Malkmus and Lou Barlow
"Ballhog or Tugboat?" - Mike Watt
"Thumbs down" - Ian McKaye

This makes me curious:

These turned out ok. On the last one it looks like I'm waiting for something to come down the hallway so I can hit it with the shovel.

Orioles and Marlins are the only 2 teams left in the Delgado race. Wierded out?!?!?!

Norm Chad talks a little about Pennsyltucky:

I'm still deciding what legal action I will recommend to the estate of Joe Strummer Re: Arcade Fire. Damn Canadians.

Should I be getting up earlier so I can warm up my car for longer than 1 minute in the morning? All I can say is that the station wagon would not be having any of this.

It's difficult to be funny in the morning, color me impressed.

The ritual of car-warming-up has me considering the viability of one of those remote starters. That would be pretty sweet. As is, I lock the hoose, get in the car, and just sit. It's not worth going back inside, and my car doesn't (currently) need to be cleaned off, so I just bask in the spine-crushing cold for 10 minutes, while my speedometer climbs precipitously and without provocation.

There was another silver GTI parked in the Dominion this morning, with a short antenna and badass rims. I smell a showdown.

"That's a helluva blog." - Dicky Barrett
"It's given us some good ideas for our next album, 'Joe Strummer's Funeral'" - Arcade Fire
"KC and Pete clearly went to college." - Descendents' Milo
"Sigh. It's sad that the same type self-publishing tool that made pitchfork a wondrous reality can fall into the wrong hands and render such a trite, banal collection of weak inside jokes and self-important, solipsistic and poorly executed logic. Unreadable, though their update frequency is admirable." -pitchforkmedia.com
"We're self-publishing tools." - Pete

We are self publishing tools.....and very funny.

I read the Q and Not U interv-u on pitchfork. I had downloaded some of their songs, thought they were pretty good and promptly forgot about them. I guess I should give them a 2nd look. The "long lost records" feature furthers the 'cooler than thou' attitude that pitchfork is leaning more and more towards...annoying.

I did listen to 'the legendary hfs' radio show a bit on Friday. They say they're going to play 'the old stuff', I really don't trust them. I heard 'Radio Free Europe', 'Fascination Street' and a bunch of Foo Fighters songs b/c Dave Grohl called in and waxed poetic about how he first heard the Dead Boys on HFS. That's not a bad station but I feel they'll slip back into crappiness after spending some time in the Bawlmer demographic. Ron and Fez are funnier anyway. Viva El Zol!

Haven't looked at pitchfork yet, somewhat busy. I got a bunch of Q and not U stuff awhile back - like, 3 years - and it sounded like crappy, amateur Fugazi. Maybe they've done better stuff since then; I've also read that they're really great live. They fit in perfectly with pf's "we're awesome, you just don't KNOW" aesthetic.

post.com has an error in Wilbon's column that's funny, if it's still there...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A31437-2005Jan23.html

Just skip to the end. Viva el Fez.

Aw, they fixed it... It went something like "I think this is what we call closure. I think

And then the article cut off. That's what you get when you're not self-publishing.

Pitchfork is hilarious, they hedge their bets so assiduously. The Bright Eyes review is by turns fawning, chastising to fawning fans, then justifying the gush of fanboy love, all the while bestowing pf's oh-so-dear approval to Bright Eyes' popularity - while cringing a little in the face of its unfortunate inevitability.

Just listened to the Doves single again. I don't want to give you too many preconceptions, but it's pretty good - with some caveats. The lyrics are customarily awful - what's their deal? Jimi-whatever's voice is good, even more English Beat-y than usual. The music's solid, upbeat and soulful, though maybe not as great as the other albums, but it contains a guitar solo so bad, I hope it's kitsch.

They should have a cover-our-ass review of the week. Because their reviews are longer than Rolling Stone they languish in the grey area even more. Stupid.

I'll have to check out the doves song. I just hope that they aren't conciously writing car commercials these days.

Sounds good, I'll preorder my copy now.

The Terps got rolled by NC State last night and are officially bad. Garry Williams said they sucked. They play Duke on Wednesday. I can picture Garry Williams dressed as an old salt looking at the schedule before him and saying "We're gonna need a bigger boat," then comparing scars with Darrel Strawberry.

Bah, Wilbon's chat just ended before I got the chance to ask him whether or not he thinks Freddie Mitchell is the funniest guy in the world or not. He probably would have said that Barkley is funnier. I read Gene Weingarten's chat and will begin searching for the South Park version of the Aristocrats as soon as I get home.

DAMN YOU OMAR MINAYA!:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1973917

This article has changed a few times today from "Rangers out of Delgado race, Mets still in?" -to- "Rangers out of Delgado race, Mets out also" -to- "Delgado, Mets resume talks after deadline" -to- "Mike Flanagan and Jim Beattie (O's GM's) hang picture of Omar Minaya on Camden Yards dart board after they finish throwing up"

I don't mean to be trite (not to mention banal, though I'm not using the term properly here) but I hate the business of sports.

I mean, how elite is Delgado? He's pretty good, sure, but he's not quite a franchise player. Everyone's drooling over him because he's what's left. If you haven't eaten in a year, that's the best cracker you've ever had. That ain't no ordinary Ritz.

All this crap about Benson setting the market and the Mets f-ing things up by throwing a Staten Island-sized pile of cash at Beltran, its all retarded. It's juvenile wang measurement among agents and owners.

Philly Inq says Keith Primeau ruined the hockey union's chances by signing a cheap contract ext last year (a s___ year for him), then having an awesome postseason. Now all the owner's say "Primeau led the Flyers through the playoffs, and he's only making $3mil."

I'm rambling. I'm also yelling at Brendan (Hi Brendan!) over at MB's blog. See you at the starting line of the stationary bike race. Where's your tshirt?

In the interest of a half of a room at comfort suites KC Jones has issued the following statement:
Brendan Joseph Cunningham is a model citizen and a pillar of moral values. He is a fine ambassador for the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He has every right to be a fan of any team he chooses whether it be NE Patriots or Wisconsin Badgers. His friendship with Hunt Pyle should be admired for it's fine example of brotherhood and loyalty. I admire Brendan Cunningham and wish everyone could be more like him.....or his brother....I forget....they're both so awesome I get them mixed up.
