Smug
I think I look more smug than snide in the photo:

Please to be clicking on the photo for biographical info on the competitors. There seems to be slightly biased.

Infrequency and Indie Punching. Not Professionalism.

Kornheiser is pretty good today, particularly the stuff about Ponson. I forgot we could walk to DC United games too!
Definitely smug, a little bit "above it all." You might request another pic, as your tie not is not perfect, and yes, perhaps you could write your own bio.
Worlds collided this morning as I listened to NPR. They did a profile on The Arcade Fire (which was actually pretty interesting). They interviewed the band, and for commentary went to member station WHYY, and to an editor at PITCHFORK. Duh duh DUH!
It does always amaze me when bands have a fully articulated sound right off the bat (granted, Arcade Fire are not w/o obvious influences). Doesn't this seem really difficult? I know that a lot of bands who release a debut album have toured etc. and experimented, and dropped any super-derivative stuff. Bands like Franz and others, though, who don't have any of the awkward basement show residue or, for older folks, the smoked amateur vibe of bands who play Andy's. What's the deal? I'm impressed.
That also interests me and is one of the main reasons I worry about those bands' sophomore albums. There is a certain degree of novelty that is lost. AWK was novel and didn't build upon it, it seems Interpol did a little bit. Being crappy gives you room to grow.
As far as Arcade Fire, they're pretty good. I think that there is a certain amount of their back story that is completely made up, so be wary of that. How is it that Vanilla Ice not being from the hood is an terrible terrible lie to the music buying public but Jack and Meg White sister/brother lie is deep and intriguing?
Well, Vanilla's white lie was intended to add cred, and he wasn't intended to be kitschy. The White Stripes' deep black souls were not affected, nor was the general perception of them, by the aura of weirdness they have (which, though somewhat cultivated, I think is pretty genuine).
You do have a point though. Audiences choose to be offended, or interested. Was that a rhetorical question?
By the way, Mr. AG Finch returned my email. They are some British M-f-ing shirts. Not trendy, just f-off British. Some are cheap ($30, excluding VAT), but they're pretty ugly, or just unwearable, next level up is like $60, which is pretty much too much for me, then there's some real expensive ones - so I dunno. Quantities are seriously limited (it actually says (1 available, 2 available, etc.) Another unfortunate side effect is that shipping is outrageous - I don't think they necessarily do it often.
It was rhetorical since I really don't care about most lies, but yes, my point was based on preference of perception.
That sucks about shirtings. I might have to go to Bel Air on Sat during the day to get some MVA related mail and possibly use my record and tape traders gift card which will make it 4 weekends in a row. Just when I thought I was out..........they pull me back in.
Everyone seems more impressed by working level cufflinks than suspenders. That should put me one and a half games ahead in the standings.
I am asking on the 930 forum exactly what a "DJ set" will entail:
"Anyone clear on exactly what "DJ Sets" would entail? I guess it means they won't be using anything that could be interpreted as an instrument? For some reason I can't seem to shake the thought of the Thievery Corp guys dressed as DJ Jazzy Jeff and spinnin' it ol school against a backdrop of fake graffitti and parents that just don't seem to understand."
I'll let you know if I hear back.
from lilly1: "actually that's exactly what it will be. insteading of spinning at eighteenth street lounge they'll be spinning at the 930 club."
EXACTLY?!?! Jazzy Jeff exactly?
aslo (yes aslo),

Yes, yes, yes (much fist pumping as show spins into oblivion).
Hahaha. That's much funnier than what I heard on NPR this morning:
NPR mild mannered commentator #1: "The CNN President said that the cable news giant would not renew Crossfire."
NPR mild mannered commentator #2: "That's not what he said."
#1: "Yes it IS."
#2: "No, it's NOT."
(pause, presumably for laughter)
#1: "You're listening to Morning Edition."
#2: "I KNOW that."
Courtney bought 2 tix to thievery at 9:30, whether the Fresh Prince will show up wearing a Le Coq Sportif rugby shirt or not remains to be seen.
I have one tiquet to Thievery Corp as well. I guess I have to dig up the ESL comps my cousin gave me and practice my dance moves with plenty of Gatorade on hand.
Check out the Who Am I? section. That is the dumbest idea ever.

I'm sure it's making a point about how there are few stars in the nfl, etc... But yes, dumb.
Also (pronounced German-style, AL-zo),
I calculated price+shipping for two normal-ish shirts from Coles. $100. I'm debating. I need to do some budgeting.
Perhaps lilac stripe - http://img67.exs.cx/img67/807/newfabrics3gu.jpg
And green stripe -

Most likely no, I'd be far better served with more basic non-irons.
I really need to shut up about shirtings.
Out of those 2, I really only like the Lilac stripe one and it's not really worth it to only get one, so I say bag it.
Azlo, I need some sleep.
