Don't Mess with Azlo
Who knows when this will make it up. There seem to be some barriers to self publishing, maybe we need more tools or perhaps some Knights of Convenience to do our bidding...hmmmmm.
I kinda like this guy: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A59275-2005Feb3.html
What are your thoughts on somewhat consistently, submitting goofy questions to the Washington Post chats and seeing if they get on/answered or is that too "radio prank caller"? I thought about it the other day when I made up my Weingarten one. Will Dirda answer my questions about Matt Christopher's writing and the occult? Hmmmm again.
I am saying boo-urns on Catherine P Lewis and her crappy concert reviews:
Bright Eyes: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50127-2005Jan30.html
Arcade Fire: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52767-2005Jan31.html

Infrequency and Indie Punching. Not Professionalism.

Yes, Knights of Convenience indeed. Damn you, Omar Minaya! for some reason...
You like Bob Schieffer, or Howie Kurtz? I like 'em both, but Bob Schieffer in a kind of, he's like my well-informed, friendly, but slightly nutso great-uncle. Not that I have any of those, but if I did, I trust they'd be Schieffer-ish. I don't watch the evening news anyway, so who cares?
I think some paperwork got mixed up and they printed concert reviews from American University's freshman creative-non-fiction course. That's a shame. Damn you, David Seagull!
Lazlo, I'm healthy as a clam. I need to get some bloodwork done, but the doc said to wait a couple of weeks to foil those dastardly insurance companies. He really said that.
Let's see if this publishes before noon.
I do blame Omar Minaya and Rachael Ray for our lack of knights. I like Bob Schieffer. He's kind of an old guy with an odd edge. Your slightly nutso uncle description fits perfectly, but yes, the Simpsons is funnier than the evening news so who cares.
I do miss Seagull. Their lack of a replacement for him makes me hope that he may triumphantly return?
Posting fake questions? What say you? Try it out on the Gurus? I can't think of anything funny. Maybe ask about a good place to race your ride-on lawnmower this weekend? -or- What's the best factory tour around? Fritos? Herrs? None of those are funny.
I dunno. Something in me, I think it's pronounced "cahn-shense", makes me less likely to do it in chats I appreciate (Weingarten, gurus, Sietsama). I wouldn't want to make fun of those "hosts"; I have a lot of respect for them. I'd be down if it made fun of their stupid audiences, like "Hi!! Where can a bunch of 35 year-old hags go for cheap appletinis and the company of hot young policy wonks? There's hundreds of us, we can only pay in traveler's checks, and we've never been to DC before. Also, we have scorching halitosis-breath."
Easier to make fun of stupid people. Azlo, must keep in mind the chats are moderated by pretty savvy people... who can likely see your ip address, and who are probably reading this right now. Weirded out...
Shame on ESPN.com's lack of coordination in posting stuff, how was I supposed to find this?
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=7186
Shame on them indeed. I found something relevant in there:
"Being a Knicks fan - there's nothing worse than having Isiah Thomas running your team. It's like sitting in the passenger's seat with a driver who just threw down 8 beers and 5 hots - sheer terror."
Kevin Shipley could tell you what that's like.
I was going to submit an appletini-style question to the going out gurus from Barb and Irma but reconsidered, it's really not that funny.
So sleepy.....
This is NOT my girlfriend. From the GoG chat:
Need Advice: This is not a typical question, but I thought I'd request your advice. My boyfriend just informed me that the only time he could get us a reservation on Valentine's Day is 5:30 (at the restaurant I wanted, or any really nice restaurant in DC). I'm upset with him because I've reminded him several times throughout the month to make the reservation well in advance because things would book up fast. I will never be able to get out of work in time to make our 5:30 reservation, and if I did I would feel rushed to get ready quickly then run to the restaurant - it would dampen the whole (early) evening. We can't celebrate the weekend before or any time during the week after. I am so upset that this is ruined because we didn't get New Year's Eve together due to other circumstances. Any suggestions? He's in the dog house right now.
I saw that, no comment.
At least no comments posted permanently on the internet.......
Understood. Dude! I had read barely three paragraphs of that Bill Simmons chat (no time) and now it's retardinsider content. I hate ESPN! (sometimes!)
I read the whole thing, I just left it up on my screen. Not much of note, not mailbag quality, but still kind of funny. ESPN in general (tv, radio & web), has been annoyingly self-righteous lately since they really are the only game in town and just had their 25 yr anniv. I would also like it if they did a little more fact reporting and less investigating. I mean, wait until Emmitt Smith retires, then tell me, I don't care that much. Rudy T will step down at a press conference this afternoon?.....great, wait a few hours, then tell me how it went down. I'm interested in trade rumors and things like that because they are usually labeled as exactly that and not lead stories that will actually come to fruition in the next 3 days. I've just found that annoying lately for some reason.
Agreed, I too don't care that much about the latest leaks on college football. ESPN also seems blithely carefree that their reporting may affect the results/decisions involved. What's Planck's theory or whatever? You can't observe without affecting - it's bit of a stretch when people apply it to reporting, but it's still true. I suppose Woodward and Bernstein didn't care about the consequences, or did but went ahead anyway, but Stephen A. and Len Pasquerelli are not W+B.
Azlo, from Dan Froomkin's WHB:
Washington Post Associate Editor Robert G. Kaiser was asked this question in his Live Online last night:
"Washington, D.C.: Anything he said strike you as objectively untrue?"
Kaiser's answer: "Yes. Bush often describes a world whose features are all highly debatable, if not simply invented. He proposes 'a comprehensive health care agenda' that will leave perhaps 50 million Americans without health insurance. Is that comprehensive in any meaningful sense? He promises big economic benefits from legal changes, 'tort reform,' that independent economists say cannot have more than a small economic effect even if enacted, which is not likely. He promises to increase the size of Pell Grants, not noting that they have shrunk far below the level he promised when he came into the White House. He proposes to reduce American dependency on foreign supplies of energy, when independent specialists say that as long as we need oil, we will be heavily, and increasingly, dependent on foreign suppliers. Bush spoke of a free and sovereign Iraq as though all was well there, but Iraq is a country in terrible straits, with most uncertain prospects. Bush didn't invent the rosy scenario approach to politics, of course. There's a lot of tradition behind this kind of wishful rhetoric."
I like that the chats are part of the WaPo's archive. It's great, some of the stuff that becomes public record.
my name is doug and i'm outta heeeeeeeeeeere
Jerk. I don't get it. In a very roundabout way, we're colleagues. WTF?
Three, three hours after you leave work, ah ah ah.
Almost 4!
