Damn Smarch Weather...
It was 60 degrees and sunny yesterday, when I was sick and bedridden. The rain woke me up this morning. It's snowing now, at 10:30am. What the hell?
FINALLY finished Bellow's Adventures of Augie March. I'm going to claim that it's the Great American Novel, only because I know no one else will finish it and therefore respectfully disagree. It's long. I really like reading, and this one was a pain - though entertaining and interestingly written in a broad mix of eloquent prose and a 50s version of Depression-era street talk. A lot of "Gee whiz" kind of stuff, followed by Faulknerian excess. For 600 pages.
Now "reading" Bill Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words. What a snob. I tend to agree with him on most stuff, and identify with some linguistic snobbery, but the correct names and procunciations for all the colleges within Oxford and Cambridge? That's not troublesome on par with using verbs of correct number with collective nouns. It is cool, though, to know that Caius College is procunounced "Keys College".
Most boring post ever. <--- According to Bryson, this use of "ever" (along with "of all time") is incorrect, because both terms technically refer to the future as well as past, and how are we to know how boring these posts could potentially become?

Infrequency and Indie Punching. Not Professionalism.

I believe that Stephen A. Smith is a jerk, who mistreats his local audience in Philadelphia.
I believe Mitch Albom has big ears, and mistreats his sport audience by writing sentimental tripe bestsellers.
I believe Wilbon is an opinionated jerk (but an alright writer, as opposed to these other idiots), who mistreats his local audience in DC.
I believe Bill Simmons is a sporting edition of CKlosterman, and therefore would make a good pal. He mistreats his Kings of Contrivance audience by not writing enough, and farming out entertainment duties to potential interns, the real Klosterman, etc.
I believe I won't be enjoying columns by this guy.
