Frazz

I'm not crushed that I missed it but the Minutemen documentary was screened at the Black Cat the other night. Someone had this to say:
"Ian MacKaye was sitting right behind me, and was wearing the exact same thing as he was wearing in his interview segments[in the movie] -- right down to the same black watchcap worn slightly askew on his head."
What's the deal with that guy anyway?

Willy Mason is out of the Decemberists concert according to the 930 website. Rebecca Gates, from the Spinanes, who opened for Ted Leo backstage, is in. I do remember her being better than Mary Timony, but really who isn't, even the Press Gang is better. Press Gang was also a BBC TV series. I get to be Spike Thomson or Colin Mathews, you can be Frazz Davies. We need a new band name.....and a band.

Spike Thomson was never seen without his sunglasses... except in the only picture we have of him. Is this a school newspaper? What the hell?

That band has our schtick down, I don't think we can outdo them. Does pitchfork feature any pressgang reviews?

Ian Mackaye secretly works in the Navy yard. It explains both the watch cap and the swagger. Or maybe he's a prison rat. I dunno. And I cannot explain that picture. Is that a horoscope?

I think that it's a TV show where the kids work at thier school newspaper. A far cry from you and Mike Duck hangin out in Reid basement.

Here's allmusic's take on Press Gang, they gave them 4 of 5 stars. I'm sure Colin Meloy loves them. They seem to have an affinity for the Chesapeake as well. Maybe they've played at Andy's?

Those kids all look like they're 40. And the one guy made it turn a profit? Profit? The UK is weird. For instance, they're having an today. Why? Felt like it.

I'm guessing you meant to say they're having an election today, not they're having a Tony Blair/Pinocchio magazine day today. Consternation!

From the Reliable Sources chat:
---------
Washington, D.C.: Joe, Mick and Paul running up to the microphones simultaneously to start "London Calling" is the greatest rock 'n' roll moment ever caught on video. Your thoughts?

Richard Leiby: I agree. You can tie it, but you can't beat it.

Also a Dead Kennedys reference in there. Fantastic.

I posted that question before the chat and promptly forgot about checking it to see his response. Good catch. Glad he agrees with me.
