Your Little Herzog Friend

Esquire named "Your Little Hoodrat Friend" one of the 10 songs of the summer. They also compared the Hold Steady to Dave Attell fronting Everclear. I don't know how I feel about that. Good thing I don't rely on Esquire for music recommendations.

If your club's future lies in the hands of these bands, you better pack it up Hilly. Maybe he should pull a Pitino/Celtics press conference: "I got news fuh you guys. Joey Ramone ain't walkin' through that door. Aight? David Byrne ain't walkin' through that door folks."

How was Saul Bellow's iPod DJing?

Well those last four, there was at least a time when I would have been excited to see them. And there's certainly nothing wrong with The Liars, except that nobody likes them anymore. Taste has gone super-premium, no one's even slumming anymore. Maybe he should book some Country Bands, or BlueGrass, or, say, Blues.

iPod DJing didn't work out so well. The beer tasting seemed to runneth over, and they seemed to be having trouble finding the DJs who signed up. Fritz (I think) was up there for the whole 40 minutes I was there, or at least his name was on the board. Whether it was all his music, or he was plugging and unplugging, I couldn't tell you. Key seems to be: if you want to iPod DJ, get there by 8:30 to sign up. I don't think, in the future, it will be as crowded as it twas, but I don't know for sure. I'd say 40 people in there. Cool space, not big.

Saul Bellow was tough to see in the dark. I'm ashamed that he ended up a fashion accessory.

Sounds like it would be fun.

More Borf. After reading that, I'm real glad I don't hang out with teenagers.

Azlo, to give you an idea of the crowd, there was much nudging of friends and subsequent head-bobbing when Annie "Heartbeat" came on.

Big plus, stuff sounds real good through a real sound system.

Yeah, it all sounds well and good until he gets to anarchy.

I like this one more than the others.

That one is indeed badass. He should finish art school.

I am saying boo-urns to the cover bands at DC9 tonight. Fleetwood Mac? REM? How f-ing boring is that?

I would enjoy celebrating Bastille Day at Bistrot du Coin, though Bistro Francais is likely less nuts. Oh wait, I have no money.

But of course I'll be at AI's shindig. (Turn speakers down).

My nightlife agenda: sneak into assorted bars alone carrying a book. Buy one beer, preferably cheap. Tip poorly. Scurry out... scurrilously.

AI's shindig is probably the after party for his Celebrity Softball Classic.

I don't think they'd let you bring a book into Dream.

It looks like the Wizards are trading Kwame Brown to the Lakers. Could this deal bring Kornheiser out of his column-less coma?

UniWatch pointed out a recent trend of "putting retired players' names on jerseys from before their time with a club."

Too bad you don't have any money because this one is awesome.

That is sweet.

Kornpleaser hasn't even been on the radio, and I hear Mariotti has been in his PTI chair. Funny, cuz he hates Mariotti (who doesn't?). I hate all PTI guest hosts, and 1/2 of the regular hosts.

Maybe you'd prefer this one. I know you'd wantthis one to wear on Kareem Abdul Jabbar's birthday.
