Book Club

Jonathan Franzen review of Alice Munro from the NY Times Book review. I guess if it's supposed to be that good there's no reason to not buy the books for $6 at Daedalus. They'll take up space on my shelf and make me look sensitive. If I don't like them I can just give them to my mom. I also like short stories.....hmmmmm.

I doubt I'll go to the Lethem thing, can't justify spending $22 on a book. Remaindered and used books have spoiled us so.

Ian McEwan wrote both "Atonement" and "Amsterdam." "Atonement" was the most recent though. So I think we are about even on our bet.

I'm glad there's a forum for people to publish lengthy, really complete book reviews, but Franzen is a whiny bitch. Sounds like good stuff, though, and we could all use a little more sensitivity.

Do you have to buy from Lethem to check it out? Maybe he could sign your Clash record.

Lots of good stuff (actually good) on Pitchfork today. I guess yesterday really was a good day for releases.

Also, big feature on Chestertonian Nick Spry in the Post.

I prefer my book reviews and book sellers to be "compleat."

I might still go to the Lethem thing, I'm just trying to be less excited about it in case I have to stay at work late on Thursday.

I have already devoured the fine Pitchfork content today. So many interesting things, very little Mui Mui.

This is nice, the videos are full half hour/45 min performances. I've only watched the Bloc Party one so far. They also have a bunch archived if you click on the link at the bottom.

I'll haveta check out those live vids later... Looks pretty cool.

Understand about the Lethem thing. Wouldn't be surprised if I'm here late, as well.

Cityleases.com is... interesting. It claims to be private listings, but I get the feeling that it's mostly complexes...

I looked at "cityleases.com" over the weekend. I think it is usually private places but some are people looking for roommates. Worth keeping an eye on when our move date approaches (much like craigslist).
