Broadcasting from Scorn HQ

Well, since it hasn't popped up yet, here is the pitchfork info on LCD Soundsystem and Futureheads. Spoon is also coming in Joon on a Friday. Hmmmmmm.

Don't hasten to aware me of the price of procurement in regard to Decemberists tickets. That expenditure will surely offset your fraction of the E-Lectrizical bill. Many Thanks. Those burgers of Hamburg were the finest of meateries, my compliments.

I'll be enjoying this opera tonight.

I'll see you Friday? Maybe? Wildboyz? Is Wildboyz the opposite of Deadwood? Or just different?

How Bout That

Finally got on today. I got some message about Blogger's engineers all morning.

Kornheiser talks about the Nationals and makes fun of a few of the Orioles' dumb players.

Black Cat is showing the Minutemen movie on May 2 for $5. I'm interested. Maybe I can buy a sweatshirt that will inform others of my college major, frugality, and affinity for d boon.

That Bugs Bunny is soooo hot right now....

A lady on Metro this morning was wearing a leather looney tunes jacket. Seriously. C'mon.

An hour of Scrubs tonight, with the 9 pm episode being new. Then diversity training on The American Office. I guess I'm still giving that show a chance. I'll probably last longer than NBC.

I got nothin else.

Why Ask Why?

That is a great marketing campaign. Why think? Drink.

This could be a combination of the shirts that we were talking about. Could what we saw last night be called the exact opposite of "Cherub Rock" (the genre, not the song)? From 930 Club people, Nick Oliveri was there on one of the balconies?!?!?! Why not get on stage. Stupid.

Well, the college hockey tournament started. The Frozen Four is April 7th. The other other Final Four gets goin on Tuesday. Does Lou Holtz coach South Carolina Basketball too?

And some other guy...

Easter was always a time when we had it on you public school kids. We had the sarcastic days off ("good" friday, sure), and then the three days after Easter. Now I'll be rushing back to evil on Sunday.

Do you have the link to that picture of me/Dawson/Brendan?

Crazy Dream

I had a dream last night that I flipped my car, got out dusted myself off, flipped my car back over and it was in pristine condition (I think I was in Commando). Also, none of the cars driving by had any people in them. No idea.

The Thievery Corporation video on the KCRW website is pretty great, it's just them spinning songs from the new album and some stuff I recognize from the DJ set (a few of their remixes and random stuff). The also talk to the radio guy about what some of the random songs are which is nice. According to the 18th St Lounge, they're going to have a live band tour, no east coast dates yet, but I'd be interested in that.

I don't think I'm gonna go to the Lethem thing tonight. I'm on pg 700 in Underworld and might be able to knock it out tonight and check out the American "Office." Plus I spent $25 whole dollars on books yesterday, I got two Alice Munro books they had, a copy of Tom Wolfe's "The Right Stuff" and JFK's "Profiles in Courage" because just like Hulk Hogan, "I Am a Real American." (various shirt tears and arm pumps).

Book Club

Jonathan Franzen review of Alice Munro from the NY Times Book review. I guess if it's supposed to be that good there's no reason to not buy the books for $6 at Daedalus. They'll take up space on my shelf and make me look sensitive. If I don't like them I can just give them to my mom. I also like short stories.....hmmmmm.

I doubt I'll go to the Lethem thing, can't justify spending $22 on a book. Remaindered and used books have spoiled us so.

Ian McEwan wrote both "Atonement" and "Amsterdam." "Atonement" was the most recent though. So I think we are about even on our bet.

The Rabbit of Easter...

....he bring of the Death Rock. QOTSA set list from last Friday: Someone's in the Wolf, Feel Good Hit of the Summer, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret, Tangled Up in Plaid, Broken Box, Leg of Lamb, Little Sister, Hangin' Tree, Burn the Witch, God Is in the Radio(remix), In My Head, A Song for the Deaf, A Song for the Dead, I Never Came, Avon, Mexicola, How to Handle a Rope, Go With the Flow, I Think I Lost My Headache.. Encore:Precious and Grace (ZZ Top cover), Regular John. No "No One Knows," but I think that Song for the Deaf/Dead in a row might make my head explode.

Kornheiser must be too busy writing scripts for "America's Most Watched Show w/ Malcolm Jamal Warner," I haven't seen a column in a month. Good thing Norm Chad keeps churnin' it out.

Don and Mike are on vacation, nothing more lame than that. They go away for like 3 months. On the plus side here are some hideous pictures of Fez and a website from a non-tobias funke guy who likes jean shorts.

If that twernt random enough...Pitchfork has the guy from "Of Montreal" listing his favorite and least favorite metal bands. His description of GNR should be enough to entice you: "They were like the older kids in my neighborhood who hung out by the gas station where I bought my Garbage Pail Kids." Also they will supposedly be updating their news section through out the day. Sweet? or just more Annie tourdates?

Play with Macaque

1.21 Gigawatts. The drug story is one of the best, a shame that doesn't go a bit more in depth on the subject.

The bookstore for Thursday's Lethem thing.

The Post has an article about the creepy Ehrlich aide who looks like David Brent. And one about Hot Hot Heat that might actually be from last week.

I'm open to looking at places in Silver Spring if it means cheaper. I am continually realizing how much money $1500 is.

Slint at 930 is not sold out but it is tomorrow night and $25. Gross.

The newspaper hasn't been coming before I leave for work....a shame.

I'll try and write a letter to Crystal.

I Wish we had a Microwave

Man, I hate Peeps. The experiments under "Peep Health" are the best.

If either of us get a chance, I guess we should start looking up places in Bethesda to visit and draft a letter made of chocolate to Crystal.

Wildboyz, iPod DJ, Harp, NCAA Basketball.............

Damn You Linda Cropp

I blame Linda Cropp for the 6% Excise tax. I guess getting rid of teh Leskomobile is why he was hanging out at Carmax. I'm glad a suit comes with it.

Did you see this? It wouldn't be that hard, all their info coems from bands' websites. You could base your research solely on the "Just Announced" section of the 930 Club board.

Maryland won. Take that Oral Roberts, Gary got a Technical. Clemson lost to Texas A&M so they shall not meet again.....thank god.

A history of our people.

Stop that infernal bracket...

That's an ESPN Quickie-level of humor. I generally do brackets on a game-by-game basis (mistake?) rather than an "I think Team X will win it all" manner. It results in me generally having teams that I hate winning a lot. Do I really think Villanova will beat UNC? No. Those 1-seeds just kill me.

I have AZ, No. Carolina, Duke and Wake in the final four (lil ACCentric?). I don't want these teams to win, or even believe they will. But on a game by game basis, it's hard to say a 1 seed will fall to Ok. State. I hate when all my final four teams are state's names - thanks Wake and Duke...

A Well Rounded Meal

I can tell my the remnants of a cracker and Ginger Ale dinner that you got home late last night. Sorry, that sucks, but tonight Scrubs is on....but I think it's a rerun.

Kornheiser is old and sure looked stupid in high school. It is a bit unfair to him though, our picture are of us now (in our prime?). Throw some nice 8th grade photos of us up there and we'll call it even, or at least find the photo of John Saunders' college hockey team where he's the only black guy and has a huuuuuge afro.

I'm not sure how I missed this yesterday, pretty hilarious (Faber College, har har).

Over the weekend, I watched 2 movies that I used to think were very funny. Waynes World and Dumb and Dumber. Dumb and Dumber, although not as old, made me laugh out loud several times ("Big Gulps huh?......Well, see ya" always gets me). Waynes World is terrible. Rob Lowe is the funniest person in the movie. I also watched Super Size Me on demand and felt gross.

I'm not sure what I think of this. I'd have to see it before I made up my mind, but I do love cable access. Which reminds me...I saw a show on Howard Co. Public Access featuring a pre-Ed South show Ed South....and he had a beard. Gross.

I got paid today, and I get my Metro benefits....it's like Work Christmas.

RE: Halves on a pie.

I took advantage of Papa John's online ordering system last night. Fantastic. They email you an ETA. I think any confused-about-the-workings-of-the-interweb grandparents who saw this would spontaneously combust.

What are the odds that modern ultra-convenience is stunting
evolution? None, since it doesn't exist, duh.

Watch Out Oral Roberts!

Can I get excited about the NIT? Is this something that people do? It's so crappy they have to play on their own courts? Wierded out?!?!?!

Lazy Weekend KC made Monday KC forget that Friday KC said "Sure, I'll come into work at 6:30 to work on this report." All KCs are losers draped in stupidity.

I might go see French Toast on Saturday.....just for somethin' to do. I also downloaded a few more Evens songs, "Mt Pleasant Isn't" is pleasant.

DC Metro is working against me. They have replaced the Alias poster featuring hot Jennifer Garner with a "GO TERPS" poster featuring the hot and sweaty Gary Williams.....they put it up Friday afternoon.....a full day after they lost to Clemson for the 3rd time.....jerks.

Probably the blog post with the most confusing sentences.

Rare Saturday Post

Went to CMJ to see if they had reviewed any Patrick Wolfe stuff (no). Surprisingly, they seem to have beaten Pitchfork to some breaking news. Pitchfork would certainly respond by pointing out that the Get Up Kids don't deserve the time of day, evidenced by this review.

Will Oldham Sidebar: This will be the wierdest book ever released.

Jam-blech-aya

I suspect my gourmet meal is hurting you as much as it is me. Hope you enjoyed Deadwood. Old timey talk is only made better by old timey cursin' and brawlin'

This is the best representation of the ugly hat. The actual hat is a bit floppier and the wearer less rugged.

I think my 'life on the Metro' memoir will start out as a short-story length submission to McSweeney's entitled, "The Members Only Jacket Theory," by KC Jones, ed. Mr Chaz. The members only jacket will be a metaphor for life........people holding on to a useless part of thier past. Either that or the jacket will be a misguided 27 year old traveling through uncharted Africa in search of answers. The second idea would surely lead to Eggers stealing my story in a situation similar to Billy Crystal's theivery of this.

No Kornheiser in a while? Where are we to get more gems like Terrmell Sludge?

Out on the Curb, Waitin for a Man in a Jumpsuit

As Frank Costanza would say "I'm Back Baby!" or "What the hell'd ya trade Jay Buhner for?"

I lost my Metro Card this morning, probably in or around the apartment, crappy, had to buy a new one. Would a book/gernal account of all the ugly people I see on the Metro sell? It would easily be thicker than Underworld.

The blog has been lacking very very long articles about Axl Rose.

The Ikea Guy's mouth is squiggly because he lacks a lady friend.

I need to do some work, then read articles about the Misfits and Youngblood.

David Brent's Sordid Past

I knew Ricky Gervais was good at playing annoying, because he was annoying. I did not know that he actually had a music career. The pictures in here are as entertaining as anything the BBC (1, 2, 3 or 4) has ever done.

Like Gervais-compatriots Spandau Ballet, I know this much is true: Given the choice, I prefer sleep, over work. I'm still kind of sick. Cold-eeze tastes like blood.

Damn Smarch Weather...

It was 60 degrees and sunny yesterday, when I was sick and bedridden. The rain woke me up this morning. It's snowing now, at 10:30am. What the hell?

FINALLY finished Bellow's Adventures of Augie March. I'm going to claim that it's the Great American Novel, only because I know no one else will finish it and therefore respectfully disagree. It's long. I really like reading, and this one was a pain - though entertaining and interestingly written in a broad mix of eloquent prose and a 50s version of Depression-era street talk. A lot of "Gee whiz" kind of stuff, followed by Faulknerian excess. For 600 pages.

Now "reading" Bill Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words. What a snob. I tend to agree with him on most stuff, and identify with some linguistic snobbery, but the correct names and procunciations for all the colleges within Oxford and Cambridge? That's not troublesome on par with using verbs of correct number with collective nouns. It is cool, though, to know that Caius College is procunounced "Keys College".

Most boring post ever. <--- According to Bryson, this use of "ever" (along with "of all time") is incorrect, because both terms technically refer to the future as well as past, and how are we to know how boring these posts could potentially become?

Jealous Again

"Why can't I do anything without being yelled at?"
Ah, Black Flag.

I haven't really been keeping up with Bill Simmons' Intern contest, partially because I'm jealous as hell and partially because it's a lot of text, and some of them aren't very good.

This one's pretty good though. Even a Matt Christopher reference in there.

I won't beat you up
But I won't push you around
Because if I do that the cops would grab me for doin' it

Foie Gras

For whatever reason, our income generatin', new apartment financin' google ad is consistently for "high quality foie gras" - not to be confused with crappy, Grade F gov't foie gras. Just odd; when have we ever talked about foie gras? I guess this foie gras-titled and primarily foie gras-concerned post won't discourage future foie gras ads. But maybe it'll make us a collective dime.

Pitchfork covers the Teenbeat reunion experience - kind of.

I've invited Brendan and any interested British new age religious leaders to join the fun through next Thursday. All quiet on the blog-stern front.

Pile on More Dogs

Progressive decided to take car insurance money out today and change thier website to reflect that I am not paid in full, as they said yesterday. I knew it was certainly too good to be true since I am a loser draped in stupidity. Now, because I put last night's grocery trip on my bank card, not my credit card, I will have approximately $10 to my name until the next pay day on the Ides of March. Sucks, but at least I have a bunch of food. Might be time to roll up some change......

Samari Rolle has a very cool name.

980 had a radio commercial for their Nationals coverage that played a soundbite from Field of Dreams. Further confirmation that the return of baseball is changing everyone into 8 year old boys.

I guess steaks would be fine on the Foreman tonight. Right?

Miami VICE Principal

Is my new skit idea for our ill-fated Howard County Public Access show. Clealy involves Don Johnson as a wise cracking, stubbled, High School Vice Principal. He's always busting kids with substandard moustaches dealing drugs in the bathroom. My Uncle Juan will definately be the principal, forever slamming his desk and complaining "How my s'posta splain dees to dee supereentendont!" My favorite episode is when Don Johnson has to fill in for the drivers ed teacher and teaches drivers ed in his Ferrari.

I think reading this at 2:30 or 3 (combined with reading the review) will substitute for reading the book:http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/zforum/05/books_bookworld030105.htm

Ted Leo: Sharkbite Sessions. In a constant quest to release a studio version of everything we have ever heard him play in concert Ted puts out this iTunes only EP featuring full band versions of "Six Months in a Leaky Boat," "Loyal to my Sorrowful Country," and "Suspect Device." "Sorrowful Country" comes out the best. There seems to be some power and emotion there, like he has some kind of message. "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" comes out sounding like it should, pretty much the same way as it sounded in December (why does that seem so long ago....oh my god......3 months have gone by). "Suspect Device" is missing something. It seems slower and more articulate, less buzzing and slurring. Not too good.
